Bridge Closure

HIGHEST IMPACT:
SR 529 S – Closed for repairs on SR 529 southbound at Bridge – SNOHOMISH RIVER since 10:55 AM, 01/13/07 until further notice
From milepost 3 to milepost 4

Yes indeed, folks. The Snohomish River bridge is closed ~ stuck in the Up position. Which makes for a wonderfully pleasant lack of road noise! Would that it were like this all the time!

They’ve completely closed off the roads to get down to our little island. I, of course, drove up to the barrier beside the Dept of Transportation guy and announced that I live on the boat right over there and may I please go through? No problem, off I go. Greg? Not so much. About 10 minutes later, I get a phone call from him saying he’s been denied access and has to go back around through Everett (mass traffic, long delays). When I mentioned “Gosh, that’s weird. He just let me through a minute ago,” well, Mr. Nelson was NOT a happy camper. (Some muttered comments about having boobs, etc. might have escaped his lips) Back he went to the DOT guy, who still wasn’t interested in letting him go by. Finally, he just drove on by ~ what’re they gonna do? HELLO? WE LIVE HERE!

Now, the cool part was that since there was no traffic, I wandered back up to the empty lanes of Hwy 529 and was able to get some pictures of our marina from angles that are normally inaccessible. (And yes, I did lay down for a moment on the white line, just because I could. Sometimes I still act like I’m 12.)
