Backpacking with my boy

Went on an overnight 4 mile pack trip with Stewb. We were both a little beat by the time we got to the lake in the afternoon (we were both asking each other “Are we there yet?”), but had a great time exploring and picking the best campsite on the whole lake.

There were only a few other people at the lake; most were heading down as it’s usually just a day hike. We got settled in our little tent and read old Calvin and Hobbes books, staying inside to avoid the gazillion bugs. We wandered around the lake, as there is a trail which circumnavigates the whole thing.

I did discover that I’m getting old, as the ground was not as comfortable as it used to be. Probably pregnant with twins doesn’t help that a whole lot either.

The Search and Rescue helicopter woke me up at about 10:30 pm and then was back about 6:30 in the morning. I haven’t found out what was going on yet, but Mt Pilchuck is one of our common hot spots, as it’s an extremely popular trail.

Stewbie found a favorite rock island and hung out there watching the tadpoles. We passed 33 groups of hikers going up to the lake when we were on our way down. Quite grateful to get out of there; I’m not big on hordes of people. Turns out that the road to Pilchuck had been closed (presumably the SAR operation) and this was the next closest hike. Anyway, it was a lovely interlude and now I’m off to work. My bed will feel fantastic tonight!
