What’s Your Accent?

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

“You have a Midland accent” is just another way of saying “you don’t have an accent.” You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

I found this quiz interesting, mostly because I couldn’t imagine answering the questions any other way than I did (don’t these people know how to speak?); I have been told many times that I have a great phone voice. I always attributed it to my days as the hospital operator in which a cool, modulated tone was a good thing. I never did pick up the phrase “warshing” that my grandmother always used for the laundry. And my father has some pretty cute Ohio quirks as well. I always thought that folks out here on the West Coast really didn’t have any accents. It’s just everybody else…

Can you tell it’s been a long day and I’ve been surfing the Internet for hours? I’m on bedrest because of some pretty significant bleeding. The twins are evidently still fine (Twin B was doing a little boogie dance on ultrasound this morning), but I would have sworn that we lost one last night. All is OK right now, but I’ll get bored quickly with this, I’m sure!

Standing Down

OK, so this week’s charter is not going to happen, as the customer wasn’t able to get a large enough crew in time. But it did get me out there this morning bright and early to finish oiling the decks, which I’ve been meaning to finish up for a week or two. So that was good. I think I’ll pretend that the charter will still happen, which will put my butt in gear for getting a few other items accomplished as well. That way I’ll be a bit better prepared next time around.

Greg is coming to get the remainder of his stuff off of the boat today, so that will free up significant space for me. I’ll plan on replacing the seals in the aft Vacuflush, as they’re overdue and starting to fail. Haven’t done it before, but how hard can it be if it comes in a kit? I can read and follow instructions…Maybe even tackle a little touch-up varnish.

Meanwhile, if y’all know anyone interested in taking a sweet little vacation up in the San Juans, here’s your link: http://www.abcyachtcharters.com/

Life On The Docks

Down the river, there’s entertaining work being done on our favorite local tugs.

Up the river, we have routine bridge inspections going on. They looked a little surprised at the lady (Yours Truly) yelling over at them, asking what they’re looking for. Hey, you’re on my river, I have a right to know what you’re up to. I’m my own nosy Neighborhood Block Watch.

And then of course, there’s Dad’s favorite heron hanging out.

On the supercoolexciting news front, Her Ladyship KJ may have her very first charter going out this Saturday. We’ll confirm tomorrow, but if it’s true, there are quite suddenly NOT enough hours in the week to get everything done that needs to get done. I will have to take her up to Anacortes and am trying to figure out how to manage that. Part of me is tempted to just wing it, but even if I do, I still need to find crew to throw a line or two. She’s definitely not something I can singlehand!! I may start down my Captains List again and find someone interested in a day trip. Whew! It’s exactly what I wanted though!
