Have Skills, Will Travel

While KJ is out on charter, I’ve taken my always-improving finishing skills and used them on my folks’ 1950 vintage redwood tables. They’ve been refinished a few times over the years, but were looking pretty tired and had some black patches from failed varnish. I *wish* I’d taken before pictures, but I forgot.

Using my favorite product (Tufshield), I put four coats of base on them, followed by two of the top coat after a good sanding progression from 60 grit to 220 — with NO injuries this time. I think that means I’m cleared to use the power tools without supervision again. That scar on my arm is going to be there for quite some time as a reminder to always pay attention. I just think of it as my blood bond with Katherine Jane – that extra level of love and commitment as measured by scar tissue.

Galley update

We did finish it – I completely forgot to post pictures, as we’ve been maniacally busy for the past several weeks. So in the interest of tidying up that loose end, here’s the finished product.
