Water Off The Boat

It’s all about keeping the fresh water off the boat, as water = rot on a wooden yacht. To that end, we replaced the upper deck drain holes. Seen above is the old drain on the right and the new drain on the left. It should move a lot more water off the top deck efficiently. The old ones had a tendency to clog. If we didn’t get around to cleaning them out frequently (and really, in the middle of winter during the 7 months of pouring rain, who wants to climb up to the top deck and clear the drains?), they would end up keeping standing water on the aft upper deck area. We’ve had to fight a bit of rot there already and I know that these inadequate drains were the reason.

So now there are shiny brass bigger holes. Which makes me & KJ happy.

Good move identifying the problem and then doing something about it. Keep us updated on how it works out!
