‘s Gehts

So this is our other boat. I’m showing her again tomorrow & hopefully we’ll get an offer on her soon. She was our baby before KJ became home. I’ll miss her very much when she’s gone, as she was an important stepping stone on the path to living aboard. Plus she made a great hotel for my dad when he was visiting (even if he did accuse our docks of being “a little Steinbeckian”).

Jinxing Myself

I know, I know. I’m tempting the River Gods by even writing this post. But I was reading some older posts on Waterlogged and came across Tana’s story about falling in the river and thought ‘score one for Greg.’ His theory is that everyone who is around boats long enough will fall in at some point. Apparently, this is the one and only thing on which he and my ex-husband both agree.

And I, of course (being either self-confident or ridiculously naive & arrogant depending on who you’re talking to), had the audacity to say “I’m not going to fall in” when we first moved aboard. So far, so good, but there is a constant pressure now, as he is just gleefully waiting for me to get my comeuppance.

Either I will be zealous about my “three points of contact at all times” rule or someday I will have to eat my words. Time will tell…

Port Susan

This is the scene we get to watch nearly every day; I find it fascinating. Excuse the video quality. I figure if I post enough grainy bad pictures, the Captain might be convinced to buy me that Canon SLR I’m coveting.

I love checking out what the bridge operators are doing. The railroad bridge has a propensity for breaking down regularly. Yesterday, they were approaching it from the underside in their little boat, which was a new twist.

The crazy weather yesterday did bring us some great cloud formations and a double rainbow. No luck with the pot of gold thing though…

New Series Of Storms Headed This Way

Stormy weather is back again
It’s time to secure the trash cans again as the National Weather Service is warning of high winds today in Western Washington.

After a nice 10-day hiatus from the zany weather of this season, the jet stream has found its way back to the Pacific Northwest, bringing gusty winds and heavy rain to the lowlands, and copious amounts of snow to the mountains.

Clearly we must have been bad this year, as Santa has gone a step beyond coal in the stockings of Pacific Northwesterners. He’s called in all the major weather gods to give us a good spanking.

Really, I have nothing more to add. It’s raining again. So what? Bring it on.

We Are The Scenery

OK, so our new thing is to wave at the passenger train when it goes by, chanting “Amtrak Cascades – We Are The Scenery!” I guess I was just appreciating the fact that those people are probably sitting in their seats, gazing out the window and thinking, “It’s so pretty out here – look at that little marina.” And damn if I’m not lucky enough to get to live this every single day!

Actually, the Captain has a pretty cool little hip-hop-techno thing he does with the “We Are The Scenery” bit – I tried to talk him into letting me videotape it for you guys, but Noooooooo…apparently that will have to be a covert operation on my part. He’s so cute when he gets his boogie on.
